Default Squeaky brakes - how to quiet?

Just recently, and apparently for no reason, the brakes on my 2.5 year old electric cart are squeaking. There is no problem stopping the cart, and there is no other noise or apparent problem - just loud squeaking. Any ideas on if this is a problem, and how to fix it?

Default PM Service

Once a year the drums should be removed to check the brakes. During that PM process both the shoes and the drums should be sanded to restore the coefficient of friction and thus preventing squeaking noise.
