Default Linux expert needed

I have a Macbook pro 2.66 Ghz dual core. The disk is erased. Reload of Mac OS X failed. Tried to load Linux (ubuntu) with no success.

I need the help of an expert. If you know one, please reply.

After you've downloaded the Ubuntu iso file create either a boot dvd or usb thumb drive. You cannot merely copy the file onto a dvd or drive; that won't work. It needs to be burned or created as a Disk Image: Create a USB stick on OS X | Ubuntu

Insert the DVD or drive and restart your mac while holding down the Option key. That forces it to check other devices for startup besides the hard drive. The Ubuntu device may be displayed as Windows. Just select it and hit Return. Ubuntu should boot up and you can run it to try it out or install it.

You can also use dd to write an iso to a usb stick, but one has to be real careful with dd that you don't overwrite the wrong drive. dd works in linux, and probably works in apple since apple uses unix.

I assume you are trying to recover your osx, not install Linux?

Linux is what I have been using for years. I like the freedom that linux gives me.

Default Linux install Successfulany

I can't thank you enough Wayne. Worked like a charm. I had to do a little research to get the WiFi connection, but it is up and running. Again, many thanks.
