Had this problem several years ago. Plumber replaced expansion tank on water heater and problem went away.

A few videos on how to change them out, quite a few other threads about it too...water pressure could be too high or pressure could be building up due to the water heater expansion in the closed system could be causing the water pressure to get too high which would pop them closed. You could turn off the water heater for a short while to know for sure if this is the cause.

That is the answer. It is a fairly common problem. My plumber charged around $100. Some charge more. Get a quote over the phone when you describe the problem.

Don't knock yourself out changing the valves. There are several in the house. Besides, you will still have a defective expansion tank.

When ever I have plumbing done I have them replaced with regular crank shut-off valves. Another problem with them if they are not cycled for years, they set stuck open. At least with PEX manufactured home hardware it can be replaced easily (if you have the PEX crimping tools)

My house is 12 years old I expect them to start leaking any time now.

Had them all replaced with turn-type valves by Torri Plumbing.
