They'll be here on September 15th.

I've seen the Fabulons down in South Florida at least a dozen times over the years. Never once did they put on anything less than a great show.

A number of years back when I was in South Florida we ran a concert series every summer for 9 years. The Fabulons were the only oldies "cover" act we booked more than once a season. For the last 3-4 years of the series they were the first show because we knew they would get us a large crowd and get the season "off and running." They drew bigger crowds than most of our name acts.

I have no "stake" in seeing them do well here... they wouldn't recognize me if they fell over me. If you are Rocky & the Rollers fans this is a can't miss show. Anyway... it's a suggestion.

Dear Members,

I'm not sure how many of you know about this, but I thought it would be worth a special thread.

As you know, you have the ability to place links to websites in your posts here on Talk of The Villages. It's a nice feature that is very helpful to many.

For some reason, if the link you post is directed to any of the Villages official web sites it cycles back to your original page and not to The Villages site. For example, Click here: http://www.golfthevillages.com/ In short, TOTV has been blocked from posting many pertinent links to The Villages.

This is not an accidental phenomenon. We don't know why the blockade has been set up, but it has. There have been numerous suggestions to us as to how this is being done, but no reason why has ever been forwarded.

If a link to a Villages website is posted in a thread, it is necessary for you to copy it and paste it in the URL window of your web browser.

Here at Talk of The Villages, we are trying to be good neighbors to The Villages Companies. This restriction imposed on us has left us scratching our heads. We like The Villages, We like what they stand for, We like the developer, We like the lifestyle that's offered here, We try to use the freedom of speech that we have to make life even better. We hope that someday, the blockade will be lifted and you will be permitted to post helpful links to Villages information.

Best Regards
The Administrators

This may seem kind of personal, but I was wondering what the average retirement income is for people who have moved to TV. I realize much depends on the type of housing that is chosen and the extra amenities one might want, but I've been asked this question many times and I'm kind of curious, too. Not that anyone needs to say what their income is!! I'm not nosey!

I hesitated whether to put this post under one of the two existing threads concerning the Ritchie articles or start fresh without benefit of Ms. Ritchie's perspective. I opted for an independent, stand alone thread unless the administrators bump me back into one of the old threads. In this regard, I hope a distinction of motive separates this thread from the others.

My case simply stated is... not to get back into the useful but opinion driven semantics already posted, but instead generate a sincere effort to become enlightened on the bonding process of which I am blissfully ignorant. I have seen evidence of articulate and knowledgeable posters in the other threads and hope that those infinitely more conversant on the bonding process, as it relates to the Villages, will step forward with information based on some questions I have.

Before any tax-free bond is issued, is there a regulatory agency that must review it for compliance with statutes that govern the bond issue process?
If so and if defective, how did the bond in question pass muster?

Is rating of the bonds before issue a prerequisite to issue? If so, who rates them and do the bonds have to pass some type of litmus test for compliance with regulations? Is there a rating on Villages tax free bonds? If so, would the rater have an obligation to determine the legality of the bond issue and tax free status before applying a rating?

What is the Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board (MSRB)? Is it a government agency that oversees bond issues? Does it have enforcement power? Has it weighed in on the Villages bond issue?

I read that, "the issuer is also obligated to provide continuing disclosure to the marketplace, including annual financial information and notices of the occurrence of certain material events (including notices of defaults, rating downgrades, events of taxability, etc.). Continuing disclosures also are available for free from the EMMA continuing disclosure service." (Wikipedia) Does the Villages issue conform to this obligation?

Are the Villages bonds considered revenue bonds based on a the promise of repayment predicated on a continuing income stream? Does that stream come from assessment (monthly fees) provided by residents of the community?Would the CDD revenue stream be in essence the same as a municipal tax called by a different name?

One of my questions remains. If the issue of bonds in this case were questionable, why wouldn't the defect have surfaced before the issue of the bonds?

This is a sincere request for input and enlightenment. I hope others air questions and answers in the hope of generating constructive, enlightened facts and answers that put the controversy into perspective and strip it of its annoying itch to those Villagers with varying degrees of concern. Knowledge is a powerful intellectual aphrodisiac.

I find the teenagers here in Florida to be much more polite than those in the north. I also see a much friendly attitude by young people toward we "older folks."

I also miss personally knowing my physicians and attorney. When you grow up with them, it's easier to get to know them.

( ex: bike racks to hang bikes, places for golf shoes, etc. ) Would love any info as to whether something like this exists and what the approx. costs are. Also, interested in the coatings for garage floors, is their only purpose for oil and gas spills, and good or bad idea ( worth the $$ ) ???Thanks!

There are all kinds of homes built by TV, villas, cottages, designers and premiers and Cottages with a big "C". Is there something missing that isn't being offered and is part of your dream retirement home?

If I could I would have more outdoor space UNDER ROOF. I love to be outdoors and I like the open screened lanais, but the sun can be brutally hot. I would like to have that space under a REAL roof...and bigger than is offered.

I also wish that there was a way to climb into the attic with real stairs, so that it is safer to store things there and I also would like it to be air conditioned.

What would your dream for a home not offered be??

We want to enclose our lanai and have just had several estimates on enclosing it. We have been told that the Florida Code has been changed and if we put in glass we would not have to pay any additional taxes as long as we don't run A/C duct into the room. However we would have to put a light outside the lanai door. Has anyone else heard this or been told this as well? We are also trying to decide between glass low e windows or the acrylic? Our concern is over time 7-10yrs. will the acyrlic windows discolored, get small cracks, or bow. Has anyone had this problem with the acyrlic windows? I don't want to be replacing windows down the road.
Thanks for the help.

Our new Holly house is under construction on Foggy Brook Loop in St. Charles. We bought the lot on Sept 9th 2009 and are driving down on Sept 9th 2010 to become permanent residents. We are renting a CY Villa two blocks from Tierra Del Sol while we wait for the new house to be completed around the 1st of October. Looking forward to learning the area north of 466.

I laughed when I saw an email from Time magazine saying they had received our change of address for "Froggy Brook Loop". I guess I need to correct that although I actually like it better.

We made three visits over the last year. While we like almost everything about TV, the one thing that has impressed us the most is the people. Looking forward to meeting everyone. Can't believe we are finally on the way.

The TOTV forum is wonderful. I have read it almost daily for a year and have learned so much.

Best wishes to you all. See you in a few days.

As you may have noticed, Talk of The Villages has been off-line a couple of times over the past week. The problem, it appears is a good/bad one.

Although I don't know all the ins and outs yet, it seems that we are being overloaded at certain times. We are over 14,000 members and growing about 25 a day. Typically there are about 300 people viewing the site at all times.

I'm not sure at this point what we have to do, but one of the options facing us is purchasing much larger server space. I think you all know what that means for us (the administrators).

So, we're hoping to resolve the issues without an enormous expense. Whatever we have to do, we'll do it.

I do know that if I was a business severing The Villages, I sure would want my ad on Talk of The Villages.
