Class 1 - Festival of Flora
If color is what you want over the winter months you will have to buy annuals. The best plants to use are: Petunia, Snapdragon, Alyssum, Pansy, Penta, Bacopa. These plant will do the best in our cool climate, and should bloom into April. They should be planted in October, then, use lots of Miracle Grow and have lots of color over the winter.
Cation: if it gets really cold you may have to cover them, but they will pop right back.

Thanks for this info. It is most generous of you to share your expertise. I am on a major learning curve moving from Ohio to FL. Our home is just over a year old. The previous owner put in many plants and shrubs--many of which I cannot identify.
