Question Cancer Support Groups

My wife has been diagnosed with Uterine Cancer, had surgery and is now undergoing Chemo treatments which will be followed with Radiation treatments. All of the medical requirements have been with Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Fl.
My question is does anyone know of a Cancer support group which is available and she can go to for discussions, encourgements, (her prognosis is very good) and positive feedbacks, etc etc,? Thanks for any information you can provide.

My wife was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma 12yrs ago and is currently a patient with Florida Cancer Specialists. We both attend the monthly meetings of the Myeloma support group here and is has been very helpful to us.

If your wife has a local oncologist check with their office as they usually are aware of area support groups.
Try searching the internet as there are many organizations out there to help but they may not be local.
The Daily Sun does post a list of local support groups I think on Mondays but I am not sure.
Check the list of clubs in The Villages to see if you might find a support group there, I think that list in published online with the Rec News.

Best wishes.

Sending prayers and love to all mentioned. Daughter and I both survived cancer, chemo and radiation. Saying that only to encourage you all.

So hard on the folks with cancer and so hard for the folks who love them.

Count on our prayers. Hugs to you.

Question Thanks

Thanks Graciegirl for your kind thoughts. I am shocked that it is difficult to find a Cancer Support Group in the Villages. There are 2 listed one on once a month on Tuesday and another once a month on Wed. You would think there would be more since it is a terrible disease and the treatments can be so difficult. I hope that in the future the victims of this terrible disease will be able to find support groups which are among the many that now exist for sports, etc. It is a surprise that only one church has put a program in place but only for once a month I thought one of the major reasons for the churches was to help the ill and infirmed?

All groups exist only because someone will volunteer to be in charge; To book the room, open it and clean up after. Support Groups really often are just talking together and sharing ways to cope or reaching out for encouragement. I think it would be easy to start a cancer support group.

Question Thanks

Thanks Gracie for your consideration. I believe it is outrages that with all of the churches we have in The Villages one has not decided to dedicate some of its time to help those suffering under this terrible disease. I will not go into too much detail but I can say that my father who was a minister for over 60 years spent considerable time calling on the sick and working to give them support. Not having a group supported by and offering the resources of the church including space, ministerial help etc. is in my mind outrages. I do see one church who once a month opens its doors for a Cancer Support group and although it is limited the church should get credit for its recognition this is a space that should get help. Just some thoughts.
