Default Tinnitus

If you are reading this post, it is possible that you either have tinnitus or know someone who does and the subject line caught your eye. I have a good friend who has had this condition all of his life.

In fact, when he was a little boy, his mother said one day, in a general conversation about hearing, that there are some people who have a constant ringing in their ears.

He said, "Doesn't everybody?"

He deals with it well, but that may be because he has had it as long as he can remember. He also has an extremely laid back nature which I am sure helps, too. Tinnitus is not easy to put up with and can be truly hellish for many.

The reason I am writing about this today is that I want to get it on here even though the link is not up on the Good Morning America website yet.

This morning they had a segment discussing some new treatments that might help alleviate this unseen condition that can make so many miserable. I would also like to mention that another friend who developed this later in life was able to successfully mask the pitch with the right hearing aid. This did not work for the first friend mentioned here.

So if you or anyone you know has tinnitus, you may want to look at the GMA link today. If someone else has not already done so, I will look for it and link it here when I return home later. When I looked awhile ago, I could only find archived information. If the new stuff was on there already, I missed it.

This is the link about new treatments that may help those with tinnitus that I was talking about in the above post. I couldn't find the link this morning.

Like your friend I have had tinnitus all my life and thought it was normal. When it became extremely noisy and bothersome I saw a specialist and was diagnosed with Meniere's. Sometimes the two go hand in hand. I have learned to live with most of it and my hearing aid has reduced some of the noise in my left ear when I am wearing it. I thank you for the post because I am always looking for new information and just received a disc from Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit that is also doing some new research. You can contact them by phone and they will send it to you.
