Town Square webcams
I was wondering about the possibilty of changing the the view/placement of the Lake Sumter Landing webcam. The Spanish Springs webcam is great! But to be honest the LSL webcam is a bit boring. Very little chance of watching the carts go around the square and very little people watching in general. I would like to see a view similar to SS, being that it is not straight on, but at an angle and much higher.
:gc: |
I'm not sure that moving that camera would work. It is located directly across the street from the part of the square you can see, high on the building. If it is moved, you will not be able to see action in the square. It's the set up of the streets, the square and the proximity of the camera to that square.
|
The one in LSL is also a future cam. The time shown is one houre ahead of real time.
Take a look now to see who will be in the square. |

Check out these two URL's and make sure the Stream Profile on the SS cam (above the image at the upper left) is set to Motion JPEG. On the LSL cam make sure the Video format is set to Motion JPEG. Have a big monitor then just click on the rectangle in the blue button below to view the cams full screen. ESC key will return things back to normal. How do I copy and save those two link addresses for the cam viewers? Would like to use those vs the one on the Village page.
Thanks |
A couple of ways you can hang on to those links - - - when viewing each:
- save them to your Favorites/Bookmarks - highlight and copy the link(s) to a Word file (or to whatever you feel is most convenient for you). Bill :) |
If you have an iPad you can also add it to your home screen.

Tried to save them to favorites, but doesn't seem to work. It brings up the site, but not any video action or the video screen is blank. Not sure how to save to a word file. Two great links, want to save and use. Dick |
Hi Dick -
To save the links to a new Word document: - highlight the entire link - right-click on the highlighted link - click 'Copy' on the pop-up - open Word to start creating a new document - right-click anywhere within the bounds of that new document - click 'Paste' on the pop-up That will paste the link into the new Word document. Do that for both links then save the Word document, naming it and filing it as you wish for future retrieval. Hope that helps! Bill :) |

Nice
That really is a much better way to watch.
Does anyone know if a new camera is planned for Brownwood? |

1. Launch the webcam as you normally would 2. In the address bar there is a tiny icon just to the left of the address "http://........" 3. Left click on that icon and hold it while you drag it over to any unused space on the desktop 4. Release the mouse button to drop it as a shortcut on your desktop |
Glad that worked for you, Dick. Creating a shortcut as EdVinMass outlined is a good option as well.

Help!
Copied the links to Word. Am I the only one getting a request from the server for a username and password? What are these? Thanks for your assistance. Lark |
What a great thread. Informative, people helping other people, a look at the Villages from the cold North. I wish all threads had this tone.
Thanks again. |
We are moving to TV right before Christmas and will be missing our family and friends.
We are going to send the webcam link to all of our friends and family to look at the site at a designated time on Christmas Day. We plan to be holding a huge sign to wish everyone a Merry Christmas !! Hope it works !! |
Cannot get the LSL to work but SS works fine. Any suggestions?
|
If you are using IE it is most likely you have not installed Active X. Go to the SS cam and at the top of your window there will be a blue line to install Active X. Click on that bar to install Active X and you should be good to go.

Check the webcam link now; it's Brownwood. No other choices currently available at this time, apparently.

You may have to load an additional program. When I did it a message popped up that it wanted to install something and I said yes and away it went. Super close image but I am wondering how long it will last. VG |
No

Just a quick note to say if you're getting the cam from the temperature link in thevillages.com, but you not getting the three graphics for SS, LSL & Brownwood on the top of the page, try refreshing the page and see if that works for you. I was having this problem as well as my wife, and our computers were pulling an old page out of our computers cashe until we refreshed and got the page from thevillages.com's server. Please don't ask me to explain it. I'm still scratching my head!!!

You need a username and password to manipulate the view.
|
Is Brownwood open? Is there a webcam?

If you want to play around with some PTZ cams try looking at Mammoth Mountain Ski area. Killington in Vermont also had a PTZ set up last year but I have not been there recently to see if it is active this season. VG |

By the way, where in Iowa are you from? I was born and raised in Dubuque, right on the Mississippi River. Wish I was in TV now... |
