I have also been to a NYPD Pizza just outside Chattanooga, Tennessee. The setup is completely different, not a sit-down and order it is order from the line as you enter and they have numerous pizzas of varying toppings ready-made to order by the slice or you can order whole pies that are about 24" diameter. This place is even better than the one in The Villages.

Are there competing chains with almost the same name or are these all individual one off locations?
It looks like they are competing chains. NYPD Pizza - Locations http://www.indoughwecrust.com/index.html

The Gourmet Club description clearly states that this place is not affiliated with New York Police Department pizza chain. Said it probably stands for New York Pizza Delicatessen, out of Orlando.

We had pizza from there several weeks ago. It was OK. Nothing special, but nothing to complain about.
