Default recipe from the early 60's

Looking for a recipe that my mom used to make with peas, tuna etc... It was the rage back then. Thanks to all the cooks that can help create this memory for me.

Egg noodles, cream of chicken (or mushroom soup), minced onion.... mix altogether. My mom would crumble either potato chips on the top or corn flakes. Bake at 350* for an hour. Let sit for 5 min. b/4 serving.

I tried that recipe, as I remember it, not too long ago and we couldn't even eat it. I remember we use to love it. Hope you have a better experience.

Campbell's Tuna Noodle Casserole Recipe

Our family never indulged in this; but our neighbor used recipe # 2 - it was on the can of soup back in the day!

Thanks all. Yes perhaps I wouldn't like it today but I just remember that back in the day I did in fact love it. So I thank all of you for your responses.

If it had macaroni in it we called it tuna noodle casserole. I think it came of the macaroni box.

Default Tuna Noodle Casserole

We make it all the time. It is one of my favorites.

Serves 2 or 3.

One can of solid white albacore Tuna
one can of cream of celery celery soup (my wife does not like mushrooms - if you do use cream of mushroom soup)
Milk
one can of peas - drained
1/2 box of medium sized shells (macaroni shells - not sea shells)

Put the tuna in a pan and smash it up with a fork
Add the cream of celery soup.
Fill the empty soup can half full and stir it with a spoon to get the rest of the soup out of the can. Pour it on the tuna and stir it together.
Do that again to make sure the can is clean (waste not - want not as mother always said)
Add the peas and stir it all together and bring it to a simmer - stirring often.

In the meanwhile, take a medium sized pot and fill it 1/2 full of water and bring it to a boil. Put the shells in the pot and cook for 9-10 minutes - I usually simmer but I like to see a few bubbles. I stir every five minutes just so I look busy to my wife.

After the tuna mixture is nice and warm and mixed well and the shells are done, drain the shells, return them to the pot and add the tuna mixture. Stir it well and let it set for 10 minutes so it all soaks together.

Call the spouse and say it is ready. Mop your brow like you did a whole bunch of work. Enjoy the praise for the great meal.

This was one of my fav dishes to prepare back when I was a young bride....
It was with ,without and in between ingredients....MOST versitial as far as I was concerned....my sweet husband thought I served it too much...
It looked so appealing in the Pyrex yellow cassarole dish we received as as a wedding present....
This has really brought back some memories. THANK YOU!

You could also make it with canned chicken if you don't like tuna. It's pretty yucky either way

I just called it the YUCK dish and found another house to eat at that night. My friends and I were pretty good about not eating at home when someone else had a better dinner. I do have to admit there were a lot of kids at Mom's most evenings.

We called this dish Tuna Wiggle and had it almost every Friday night because we couldn't eat meat on Fridays. What memories!

I remember a dish called "Tuna Pea Wiggle" - tune, peas, white milk gravy-like sauce and served on saltine crackers. We liked it then, not sure about now.
