You will never convince some who think everything should be free. Free for them means someone else has to pay. But that is OK as long as it is not " ME".

P.S. THE INDUSTRIAL NATIONS THAT HAVE "FREE" HEALTHCARE. THEY ARE ALL FALLING APART, TAXES ARE THROUGH THE ROOF! .

Yes, we do. I've said it before, but I'll repeat it---the WHO "rankings" are total BS. US ranks 28th, Luxembourg ranks #1. The WHO uses a weighted formula that includes life expectancy at about 50%, and financial "fairness" at 50%. Most countries only count births beyond 34 weeks in their statistics, the US reports ANY "birth", even at 24 weeks that takes 1 breath then dies. This gives us a high infant mortality rate and therefore a lower life expectancy at "birth". The financial part includes factors like access to care, overall health of the population, and percentage of income spent on health care. The more a country taxes and "redistributes" income, the better they rank.
So, putting aside the mechanics of how the WHO advocates for socialism, and therefore ranks US low, consider this: When world leaders, royalty, and billionaires get sick, they flock to "Luxembourg", not NY or Boston---right???

Well said, GE, well said.

Just a reminder...the original topic was how United Health's financial losses might impact their relationship with the Villages Health System.

The thread has morphed into discussion about the government's role in health care and has teetered into the political arena. Please do not enter into political name calling or partisan references. Those discussions should be taken into the political forum.

Forget "who bears," it's the totals here that are mind-boggling. In most countries, if you add up the "employer" and "employee" contributions, you get between 30 and 40%. So, if a worker produces 100 euros worth of output, 30-40 euros immediately go to the government. And there is an additional 20%+ VAT when the worker goes to buy something. So, right out of the gate, we have a 50-60% wedge between working and the fruits of labor. Income taxes, corporate taxes and property, excise, and other taxes are all on top of that! It's a wonder anyone in Europe bothers to work at all.

The best insight into how the news in question will impact United HealthCare is to look at the impact on their stock price .
The news in question had very little to no impact as of Friday .

Actually anyone in Medicare or ACA needs to get on computer and check around. Probably won't find UHC the best option available.
I am on Medicare with BC/BS and changing to Care Plus next year for lower deductibles and RX costs. UHC was not even in the running price wise.
My wife had an ACA 2015 platinum plan with BC/BS that was increasing greatly next year. We found another BC/BS 2016 plan in the silver category for less money, and was a better plan than the platinum we had.
If you do a lot of research you will be surprised. I was SHOCKED.

Quite right, we found the very same thing. Its analogous to putting the largest size of anything into your supermarket basket thinking its the better deal but a short math calc shows the smaller containers are actually the better deal. It's good to know you're benefiting from the ACA.

You would think that the Government would be on your side and not try to deceive you like that! Don't listen to what they say....watch what they do. I wonder how many countless others were deceived?

The government will not tell you what deductions you're entitled to on your 1040. It's up to you to find them.

That is a lot different than deceiving the uninitiated into purchasing a healthcare plan presumed to be the best ( platinum)! When the next less expensive model down (gold) is actually a better plan for less money. Pure Deception.

If you want super low copayments and deductibles then the platinum plans fit the bill. If you want higher copayments with a low out of pocket max then the silver is the way to go. Its not deception, it all depends upon on your individual medical needs and wants. I would much rather have many choices instead of just a few. Its not deception, its choice.

The choice between bad or worse is not really Choice. these are very costly insurance plans and I do not know anyone saving the promiced $2500. Deception and lies.
