Default Credit Card Scam

Bogus charge on my credit card this month:

CR *CONSUMRRREPORTS.OR 800-333-0663 NY $20.

Called my Credit Card company, they researched it then and there, came back and blocked my card from this company. No problem!

However, in my real life I was a researcher for a Govt.Agency. I searched this charge on the computer this morning and found that whoever these people are, they are doing this to hundreds, maybe thousands, of card holders. They even have the correct number for Consumer Reports.

So just a heads up to check your credit card bill each month and take nothing for granted.

Each month? I check mine roughly every other day.

I took a break for about two months with the fine tooth comb thing on the credit card bills as I have of our bills delivered via email. During my recent investigation I found that a Garcinia Cambogia Company from California charged our card twice each month for a total of $320.00. So there you go, me the guy who preaches constant vigilance on these issues to friends and kids and I took my eye off the ball for a minute and they got me.

I had to look up the use and ask my doctor about Garcinia Cambogia and he likened it to a voodoo weight loss method.

someone called me today and said they were from the veterans canteen network and needed my 'new' address. They knew my name. Their phone number wasn't a real number on caller ID. I asked where they were located and was told Oregon. It was 10am, so why are they calling people at 7am their time. Knowing me, I told them to get the f* out of here and I don't need any service.... click.

I constantly monitor my credit card charges by setting up an "ALERT" on my online account for any charges over 5 dollars. Whenever there is a charge for anything over that amount, I get an immediate email from the bank. If I recognize the charge, I just delete the email. I do the same thing for my checking account. It's easy and foolproof.

Yep, me too.

While it is sometimes a pain getting all of the 'alerts'... at least I will know immediately of any scam.

A lot of worry and paranoia here. As long as you check your monthly bill and notify the CC company in a timely fashion you are protected from fraud.

No need to be over vigilant.....go play some golf or whatever...at some age you need to stop worrying about things.

Who said anything about worrying.

With online account access and solid security measures, my almost-daily checking is much easier, less of a headache, and much more efficient than my monthly checks ever were.

I'm off to the first tee.

I know, but I don't think you understand why I'm no longer worrying. I live in an over 55 community, but now you may have me worrying again.
