Default Door to door Medicare educators?????

Late this afternoon two women came to our door claiming that they were Medicare educators. Now, for the WTF???? They asked for my husband's ex-wife (nearly 30 years ago) who has never even resided here in Florida???? Said they knew she was turning 65 and that they wanted to make sure she understood her benefits???? First question....should these chickidoos be considered as solicitors??? And how in the heck did they get the Ex-wife's name from 3 decades ago? Has anyone else experienced this?

Default A No No

This smacks of the same thing that happened several months ago when a fake deputy was going around offering to come in and do a "security check" for residents.

Always, always err on the side of caution! Please report incidents such as this to law enforcement. They should be aware of any such "educators" as to legitimacy or certainly have the resources to check it out.

It is possible, just possible, that the ex wife is listed in the Soc Sec records with your husband as she may be able claim based on his earning records. So if Soc Sec has her name, and his address.... None of that means that the ladies at your door were legit, just that there can be a real reason for her name and his address to be in a record together. Apparently the government makes the names and birth dates of those nearing Medicare age available as I certainly received LOTS of mail offering various insurance options. It could be that this is compiled from other than the Soc Sec Adm, such as using voting records or driving license records which would also contain addresses and ages.

Community Watch won't respond. Dial 911!

Exclamation They are solicitors.

They are solicitors. The government does not send representatives to your home to explain benefits.

Tell them to go away or you will set your Pit Bull on them.

Solicitors selling what? I would be more afraid that they are casing my home for a future robbery or something.

Thanks for the warning. i wouldn't fall for the scam, but now I have very good ideas. I think taking their pictures might scare them. I like Calling 911 in front of them.

These are the same people that make 6 robo calls/day and advertise on TV with fake "doctors" They are selling their version of a MA plan, or trying to get you to agree to a "free" back or knee brace. They are definitely solicitors, but while they may be violating a rule of TV, I doubt they are committing a CRIME, and therefore law enforcement has no involvement unless they are harassing you or refusing to leave. And certainly tying up a 911 emergency line is not in everyone's best interest. Just add it to the list of "first world" problems that we all have to deal with, and shut the door.

Bingo!

I thought the same thing when I read the OP's post.
