Default Recycling in The Villages

I hope somebody can help me with my question...
The instructions for recycling #5 plastics is "Narrow or screw top" containers.
What about yogurt containers? I've been putting them in the trash, because they have a wide top, but every time I do I feel guilty. I buy the big 32 oz. containers of yogurt. What do you do with your yogurt containers?

Alas, they must go in the trash for now. Each community recycles differently and for now, the size of plastic containers determines what we can recycle here.

Question

Well, I guess I've been doing it wrong from the start. On page 30 of the phone book it says they don't accept "unnumbered" plastics so if it had a # on it I've been recycling it. I wonder what difference it makes; a #5 yogurt pkg should be the same as a #5 narrow-neck or screw-top bottle. Go figure. (love Chobani Greek yogurt, Peach! )

I could be wrong, Kitty, but the list states narrow mouthed or screw top plastics. It would be nice to have examples of what can and can't be recycled. My experience with recycling over the years is that each area has different items that are acceptable for recycling. At our former residence, we had HUGE bins where we put all that was to be collected and each week, that bin was filled to capacity....our trash company took so many items...it was nice. Took them years to get to that point, maybe in time, more items will be collected here, also.

I love Chobani peach, too! YUM!

This will be one of the hardest things for me to get used to when I move to villages. I come from and area where virtually all plastics except Styrofoam are recycled. Also all paper, glass and metal are cycled. I have one little trash bag a week that goes into landfill as a result of this. I love it. The thought of filling landfills with stuff that is recyclable causes me pain.....not enough though to not come to TV as a result.

The trash doesn't go to landfills, it gets burned to make electricity, or at least most of it does.

I was pleased to see that we could recycle glass here in TV! They would not allow glass where I lived, but we could take it to a glass recycling plant 45 miles away -- as long as it was sorted into clear, green or amber.
