" This is McAfee Calling " Computer Woes
Is anyone else receiving the calls from the Mumbai Indian Call Center Boiler Room every other day or so with someone claiming to be a representative of the McAfee virus software company who want to " fix your computer " ? Yesterday " Steve Anderson " called with an Indian accent so thick you could cut it with a knife. In the back round all you hear is the hubbub of hundreds of similar calls being made. I started telling them McAfee is not my anti virus program which stops them in their tracks but does not prevent them from calling back a day later. Just hanging up does nothing to discourage them. My question for the techs is how do they know what computer virus program I have and how did they get my phone number ? Is there anything else to be done to chase then away ?

Don't answer the phone. If it's a cell phone you can block calls.

I have a land line that blocks calls. If I do not know who is calling I do not answer, if it is someone who knows me they can start to leave a message and I pick up.
Yes, have received emails from India and Nigeria, do not open those either. If you take the phone number and research it you can see where the number originates.

Get nomorobo.com as an automatic block for robocalls. It is free for landlines and works like a charm. When a robocall comes in, your phone rings one time and disconects. Screens out just about all robocalls.

They do not know any information about your computer they are phishing, hoping someone falls for their scam. Once you answer one of these calls it registers in a database somewhere as a live number. From there it gets passed around to all the scammers. As it has been said before if you don't recognize the caller don't answer

all the time.
We get the calls all the time and unless we recognize or expect a call we just delete it. Relatives and friends know to leave a message.

The national Do Not Call list is the biggest joke that Congress ever passed. It has more holes in it than swiss cheese. State laws on the subject are no better

Today I got the following supposedly from Bank of America where I have an account. It asked for my id information etc. to go to my account. I'm sure this was an attempt to get my signin information. I went to my BOA account on line and everything appeared normal. The following is the email I received:

I haven't had one of those calls in over a year. The last time they said they were from 'windows', I said I don't need any new windows, thank you and hung up.

There was a time when we never got any scammer calls on our cells. But now that we use cells almost exclusively, we get a few.
Most recently, the calls are about student loans. We are old. We don't need no stinkin' student loans. Geez. But.....it did occur to me that such a call possibly could scam a young person. I bet that's who they are targeting on this one. |

Hope you did not click the link, these are almost always phishing exploits to get your account access info, in the worst case these download malware or ransomware which can be difficult or impossible to remove from your computer.

It has holes in it due to Lobbists lawyers and under the table money.

I installed nomorobo a couple of days ago and my phone has rung "once" at least a dozen times. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE INFORMATION. I have been passing it along to friends.

I talk to them in broken English, like them, until they hang up on me.
