Before cutting down the tree do a search in this thread or check the district.gov website. I believe if the tree is more than 4 inches in diameter you must obtain approval to remove the tree. I am sure of of the other "old timers" can confirm this. Good luck!

you might find a landscaper who will pay you to remove the palm tree for resale, too.

Absolutely true. It does not matter if the tree is on your property. Big fine will result if not notified. It does not take time nor money to apply to have the tree cut down. |

Gerry, please do not take this as agruing with you, I just don't want to see you make a mistake. You might not need approval from Sumter Co. but rather from the Villages Architectural Review Committee. Call Janet Tuffs' office 751-3939. It might save you some money....and the call is free!

Contact Lisa, tell her Mr. Dave from Privada Drive sent you. They took out a Queen Palm last year for me. Reasonable! |

You do know the difference between the County and The Villages right? You do have a copy of your deed restrictions right?

To OP, In VCDD #9, the following is in the deed restrictions:
2.18 No arbor, trellis, gazebo, pergola (or similar item), awning, fence, barrier, wall or structure of any kind or nature shall be placed on the property without prior written approval of the Developer. Permission must be secured from the Developer prior to the planting or removal of any trees or other shrubs which may affect the rights of adjacent property owners. No tree with a trunk four (4) inches or more in diameter shall be removed or effectively removed through excessive injury without first obtaining permission from the Developer. So be safe, contact ARC before you have the tree removed.
