NEW Villages FM radio station
Hi everyone,
A former Village resident is building a new FM radio station this summer. And we're interested in your format thoughts for the new station. Options include: Easy Oldies, Classic Country and Classic Hits. Give us your thoughts! Thanks |

If I had to pick a single "gap" that I thought would appeal to the most Villagers, it'd be classic country. Oldies abound, to a fault, IMO.
Someday I'd dearly love to see a station with the guts to offer a real wide net of programming. I'm probably in the minority since I'm such a music guy, but if you could give me everything from Van Morrison to Patsy Cline to Keb 'Mo to the Smithereens to Mel Torme', I'd be one happy camper. Most programming these days seems to assume the listeners only have one gear. 'Taint so! |

couple of questions....will this be a non-comm LPFM? Will it be operated from within the Villages? How do I get involved?
BTW, I would think that a well constructed mix of many music genres would have a large appeal to most Villagers. We all come from different areas with vastly different tastes in music. Feel free to PM me if this is not the proper place to answer some of my questions.

A real simple way to help decide is to answer this question. What two bands draw the biggest crowds at the squares?
Answer: Rocky n the Rollers and Uncle Bob's Rock Shop. The first band Rocky, performs 50's and 60's rock, which is the mainstay of the current developer owned station WVLG. UBRS features music that is considered classic rock by most people. They can perform the Beatles and lead right into Jimi Hendrix to Led Zepplin to Pink Floyd followed by the Eagles. Currenly I've only found one classic rock station WIND 95.5 out of Ocala/Gainesville. However, the station becomes weaker as you move south, and since I we often find ourselves headed toward Orlando, Clermont or Tampa I put XM/Sirius Radio in my car and really love it. I've got 18 present channels that I can go to at anytime. I would focus on the area between The Villages, Leesburg, Clermont and west Orlando for an area that classic rock could succeed. I've been involved with music sales a good part of my life. I owned and operated a record store in Savannah, Georgia for almost ten years and operated a mail order CD/Record business for 20 years. |

Dish has a channel called "unforgetable".
Sinatra, Bennett, Fitgerald, Nat King Cole, Rosemary Clooney, Judy Garland, Michael Bubble, Harry Connick and many other artists.

I vote for the same music that the developer's AM station plays.

Why not a wider mix of programming? I'm a classic rock guy 50's - 80's bit I do love a good Blues mix.

I would love a smooth jazz station. San Diego had one for many years at 98.1. Alas, new owners and suddenly it sounds like every other station.
