Its off Lynnhaven Drive. If you go on Buena Vista and turn on Rainey Trail and take the gate to Ashland/ Lynnhaven. Stay right on Lynnhaven drive and stop at the Ashland pool. The dry lake is next to the pool.

Ashland, Lynnhaven, Bonnybrook were all built just south of 466 around 2004.

Believe it's a pond and not a "lake".......just my observation after numerous trips to the ashland pool.

Chuck,
You are so right. Its a retention pond but some TV maps call it a "park with a lake". LOL! The park is one tree with a picnic bench and the lake is a retention pond.

There was a small mention in either Tues or Wed Sun about the Ashland pond ... basically said that 2 sinkholes were to be plugged and pond will be refilled by rain water. There is also mention on the districtgov.org website under what's happening.

They aren't avoiding the topic but certainly not using any language that might cause panic.

I would be surprised if they discussed the one in Hudson...not relevant to TV and again not wanting to feed any panic.

Midge...thanks for posting the pictures - very revealing.

Lake Sumter is man made. I'm no expert but it seems no one knows where and when a sink hole will appear, so it could happen in Lake Sumter.
I think it would be harder to drain because of its size, depending on how it was dug out. I sure wouldn't worry about it. Plus, seeing that Sumter Square is the show place for the Developer, I'm sure it would be fixed as soon as possible.

As was mentioned before, when the Ashland pond drained, it drained two other ponds. They are all connected retention ponds.

I have no idea how Lake Sumter is built but it is a lake vs a pond.

I do not believe Lake Sumter is man-made but is a natural lake. It has been dredged and shaped, of course, but it is a spring-fed natural lake - to my knowledge. By the way, did you see the hundreds of tilapia nesting circles in the lake earlier this year? It was amazing to see and each one had a large tilapia in it.

Nevertheless, it would be a good idea to have a few no trespassing signs placed in that area as with such a hole there may be a possible element of danger .... especially with all of the grandkids visiting at this time of the year.
Midge, do you honestly believe that a "No Trespassing" sign would keep grandkids out of the area? What about a little common sense for them? Of course, there were "Danger" signs posted about the buffalo and still grandparents put little kids over the fence. Signs do very little good when the brainpower is missing.

Buggyone,
Thanks for the info.
I'm sure you're right. Where else could all that water come from.
I was just repeating what the tour guide told to us on the short little boat ride on the lake. Guess he meant the dredging and forming the shape.

Yes, saw the tilapia. It was amazing.
