I agree in 07 it was very different, but I never considered it fine dining. I enjoy very good wine with food but I just don't see a resturant. Of that quality coming to TV

An interesting history. ... you old timers have a good sense of what happened and why. Newbies take note.

I agree. I miss the OLD Katie Belles, also.

Stopped going there 2 or 3 years ago.

In MY opinion, with 100 eating establishments IN The Villages,
Katie Belles was just no longer in the top 25.

Only Gary Morse knows for sure and he ain't talking.

One day it appears and you know it's been in the works for a while.

HE sure do work in mysterious ways, but I seriously doubt it.

Just exactly what Joe said.

Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow, Kiddo.

I don't think there will be a Southern "Katie Belles", those days are gone. I also don't think there are enough regional rec centers in the Southern part of TV. As most people know, the regional centers are the big centers with huge rooms capable of holding 150+ people. I know Eisenhower is open, but is there another one in the works? I also don't think there are enough instructors to service all the new residents in the Southern part - by that I mean the people who give freely of their time (and I do mean FREE) to teach classes. I know from experience that I am meeting people from the farthest part of TV who are having to travel 40+ minutes to get to Colony, Seabreeze, Miona and Laurel Manor. Events in these rec centers are already at capacity, I cannot imagine what the winter will be like.

There is a restaurant in Washington D.C that is below street level and entirely dark, no lights at all. A hostess guides you down the stairs to where the tables are. You cannot see the other diners, not even the ones at your table. The waiter reads or recites the menu.
I think this would be a fine thing for Paddock Square, don't you?

I miss the "original" Katie Bells from when Spanish Springs first opened. We talk of it on every visit. How it has been down graded and now is not worth attending. And while we are on memory lane, Café O'le, Augustine's, and the Bakery.

It seems that all the fun things about The Villages are disappearing; first it was the Silver Lake restaurant, then the Chula Vista restaurant (who will ever forget the all day long dollar Margaritas), then the Santiago restaurant, then the tiki bar at OBCC. Where will it end?

Things change. Where in this world would we, could we find anything like this place is, AS IT IS today?????

If people here become unhappy and at odds with the positive view of the majority of the people who live here, then if they move, at least they have invested well and will make a profit.

Almost everyone I know who lives here sees this wonderful place very positively.

I dont remember the Silver Lake or Chula Vista restaurants, but I still miss Santiago and the OBCC tiki bar. There are others to add to that list, but there are new places that have opened that have made it less painful. The funny thing is that thousands of people living here now never knew of our old favorites. But as GG says, this is still the best game in town.

A common theme on TOTV spoken by village residents is one of I wish there was a.....................here. I suspect some do not fully explore the reality of their wish list items. Katie Belle's from my prospective has never been good since I first visited in 2004. It had gotten progressively worse after I moved here in 2006 where I paid two visit the second was the straw that broke the camel's back when I ordered a chicken sandwich that was so bad I spit out the first bite . I would suggest that those enjoying the Katie Belle experience can have a better time eating out and joining when of the many dance clubs here.

Church On the Square was renovated by Villages Lake Sumter, Inc. it is said the capacity to be 1500. Its venue has not been advertised, to my knowledge, but I suspect the owners will draw some very good entertainment but it will come with a cost. The Villages' population is now perhaps large enough to fill their venue. I am not certain that a competing venue is viable.

I am not interested in any of the above but I certainly would not stand in the way of others. However people ought to give careful thought as to the tension between want vs need because want comes at a high cost just as the residents of Atlantic City NJ who experienced a 50% closing of their casinos

I love the campaigning Q/A of my favorite Freeholder who has now passed several years...When people would ask about changing things in and about the County he would ask, "Why do you want to change things? Why did you move here? Was the County not the place that you wanted to live when you moved here?" And then he would tell his questioner, "With all of the changes you have requested, it seems you want to reinvent this County to become the one where you used to live and moved away from!"
