I will predict this for the future: Healthcare delivery will change, maybe soon after inauguration day. The "old" system worked fine for 85-90% of the population, but it left about 40 million people out in the cold. They could get the care they needed, but if they had any assets, they were bankrupted. By virtue of the "consequences of an election" in 2008, America decided the system needed to change. Personally, I agreed, but as usual, the devil is in the details. What we instituted is not viable in the long term, hence the prediction for future change. People resist change--hence all the consternation regarding TVH insurance decision. But fasten your seatbelt, it will change again.

Trust but verify. As always, one must be there own health advocate.

I personally have found the level of healthcare to be better than in CT, as my present doctor is more sociable and allows more time for appointments.

I am a patient of TVH that will accept UHC MA plans going forward as in my previous post. Part of their decision was based on the amount of time they could spend with patients, as opposed to Medicare with a supplement.

As always, it's about the money and what one needs to do to stay in business.

I agree with Golfing Eagles, it will change somewhere down the road but for now, I am a happy camper.

Good hospitals and doctors in Gainesville. Would not do anything serious in The Villages. Lived in Illinois 2 blocks from hospital. Still drove to Chicago, an hour away for anything serious.

Seriousness is generally in the eye of the beholder. And patients and their physicians don't always agree on the seriousness (or lack thereof) of a condition.

Tampa and Orlando also are worth noting for medical capabilities. But for many things we have good physicians and facilities here in this area.

Oldcrank: I moved down from Minneapolis and Minnesota is a premier health care state because of Mayo, University of Miinnesota and because the state invests a lot in healthcare including mental healthcare etc. They have for example utilized Dental therapist who can do much of what a dentist can do to serve those residents with no insurance.

When I moved here 10 years ago I explored healthcare and decided that Munroe fit my needs. Indeed the care my brother and I received from Munroe Hospital satisfied both of us that it was a good choice for us. these folks are efficient and always have a smile on their face

I admittedly miss the doctors I had to leave in Minnesota and MN healthcare system because my primary was a real Dr. Welby and the specialist I employed top of the line

Health concerns for us as we age are a serious concern and it should be weighted heavily in your decision if you have any significant health issues

In fairness to medicine ACA has played heck with both the health care and insurance industries

You may want to locate or get referrals for doctors in this area before you make your final decision

Stay were you are,. Is a joke around here finding Dr. The most you see are PA. or ARNP. You don't see a Dr. Only if it necessary. The weather is good where you are. Now if your moving because you want more to do move to The Villages. Good luck. Rent for a month during of season is a great idea

I disagree completely. All the practitioners I regularly see are physicians, not PAs or ARNPs. The exception is for dermatology where a PA sees the patients before the physician. I am not in The Villages Health plan. I have an excellent internist who has referred me to excellent specialists in this area. And I do my own research as well.

Hi, you really have to do your homework on the Medical and just beware, there are some quacks around. Be careful of the draining of your bank account with excessive visits or tests and just keep your cool and do not be afraid to ask questions. If they cannot answer with a truthful reply, then WALK AWAY.
On housing, be careful. There are some good outside Realtors, real Realtors, Grizzard, Executive Homes, ReMax and by owners in the paper. You can do a purchase by using the Escrow persons and get around the high real estate commission also. The lifestyle program is good in some respects, get a rental, check it all out, be sure they include bikes and a golf cart. YOu can also rent a golf cart from the INDEPENDENTS in the paper at about half the cost of the big time cart stores. We finally bought, electric, EZ Go from AGC carts, they are close to the Bonefish Grill and they are really very good to deal with for sure so be patient, do not impulse buy anything and be sure to be careful of the shysters, they are around, you are their CASH COW.

Back to the original question: There was no TVH prior to 2012, so all the bally-hoo is a recent development. Prior to that, TV was just like any other community---you talked to friends and neighbors and chose a doctor. The tertiary care centers are in Orlando, Tampa, Gainesville and Jacksonville. If you have a concern over the quality of healthcare in TV, then you really are questioning the quality in all of Florida. Everything in life is a trade off, some places have better restaurants, some have better shopping. If extremely high quality healthcare with a "recognized" name is important to you, there should no problem buying in the inner city slum of Baltimore, right next to Johns Hopkins. I prefer it here; even at age 22 I declined the opportunity to go there for 4+ years, preferring the slum I knew in Brooklyn to the unknown slum.

dbussone: In my humble view and having dealt with a number of PA's found them to be quite effective In my view there is plenty of room for both and this can be advantageous for patients both in time and money
