Default Moving questions. . .

Hi, this is my first post so be gentle

I'm a disabled veteran and I am in the middle of closing on a home.

I plan on using one of the DAV recommended moving company's.

Can their large semi's fit on the little roads or do they have to transfer everything to a smaller truck.

Also, would like to know of other moving companies, but some items I am moving can not be replaced (like art work). Also, I would be upset if my TV was broken.

If this is posted in the wrong forum, please send me to the right one. I will learn.

JLS

Sorry u had to preface your first post with "be gentle". Most real live people you meet in person in TV will be really nice. I have seen big moving semi trucks on my street and I live in a small patio villa neighborhood. Hope this help and welcome to TOTV! Peace out...

We used an ABF tractor trailer and used 28 ft of it and locked it off. It was a semi and the roads here can handle them. We had it parked in our driveway for 3 days while we unloaded.
With ABF you load and unload, we had friends and relatives load and we hired on this end to unload. We saved over $3000 by not using one of the national moving companies.
Good luck on your move and welcome to TOTV and The Villages.

If you buy a villa it may be a problem. Depending on the exact location in the villa areas. Be sure you check this out. Other locations should be no problem. Cottage, designer, and premium will be ok.

Thank you. It is a courtyard villa, and the roads looked narrow.

And Fraugoofy, I'm new, I will learn.

I also saw this is the place to introduce myself.... hi!

Hi JLS and welcome to the Villages and to TOTV. I think the large vans can make it through almost all the streets in the Villlages. The drivers usually know more than we do, they are here so often.

As far as the expensive items, I had some antique mirrors that were shipped from Los Angeles and had my movers pack them up in a special way so they would get here unbroken. Everything turned out great but be sure to tell your company about these special items so they come prepared to pack them separately.

Good luck and welcome. Come to Crispers as soon as your settled to meet up with some of us.

Kathie

JLS33, first a BIG welcome to the villages. You are correct, the villas roads tend to be narrow. I would call your mover and alert them to this concern, and then let them figure out if they need to use a smaller truck. I large truck will actually block 1 or 2 other driveways. I agree with Kathy's comments, and it is good you are asking questions. Your villages sales person could also be a help here, as this is not a new problem.
