Default Festivals Around the U.S.

The following post by Villages Kahuna has a link to a great Festival near Seattle, Washington. What festivals have you found around the U.S. that were particularly enjoyable that might be a good destination trip? Please post websites if available.

"Hey, Villages Kid, here's the story of the lavender picture.

The photograph was taken by a member of The Villages Photography Club, Gary Bergland. Gary and his wife traveled to Washington state specifically to attend the lavender festival that's held each July in Sequim, WA. The annual festival is timed to coincide with the peak of the lavender season.

Apparently the "rain shadow" in that part of the Olympic peninsula results in ideal conditions for the growth of lavender--maybe better than any place in the world. Gary and his wife visited Sequim to enjoy the scenery. He took his point-and-shoot camera with him. Gary is an excellent photographer, but he reports that getting that award-winning picture took little more effort and skill than pointing his camera at one of the many, many vistas of blooming lavender on the dozen or so farms in the area that grow the flower.

I agree. That photograph is both breath-takingly beautiful as well as calming. I guess if we want to see that type of scenery, it's as close as Sequim, WA. Sequim is only about an hour's drive from downtown Seattle. This year's festival is scheduled for July 18-19-20. If you want to go and take your own pictures, here's the link to the details. Take a look at some of the other pictures posted on that website.

Welcome to the official site of the Allendale County Spring Cooter Festival. Now if you have been here before or to the Festival, you know who, what and where we are...Now if you been missing this Festival here is a little explanation on who, what and where we are:

Cooter is just a neat nickname for what you Yankees ( folks who live above Columbia) call a turtle...We call 'em Cooters here in Allendale, South Carolina! Now with that out of the way, here is what you found...

In South Carolina we not only watch 'em on logs, we also catch 'em, race 'em, and sometimes eat 'em. The Fastest Cooter In the Race wins 1000.00, and the slowest sometimes get turned into Cooter Stew ( NOT REALLY PETA FOLKS...IT's A JOKE) Forget Nascar, if you've never been to a "COOTER RACE" then you haven't been to a REAL race.

College kids comin' through on Easter/Spring Break stop by...Just don't steal the darn banners...Now if you have stolen one of the Cooter Fest Banners in the past, email us a picture of it in your dorm room. The Official Cooter Fest t-shirts are available at several local merchants and at Gooding Advertising. You can even order them right here online...

This years Festival is scheduled for May 2-3, 2008.
Hope to see y'all there.

P.S. If you see a Cooter in the road, don't run over him.
'Cause a little Cooter never hurt anybody!!'
