blaZen: I was once told by residents of New Orleans that there are two Mardi Gras in New Orleans. This couple told my wife and me that there is the Mardi Gras held in the French Quarter for tourists and then there is a family Mardi Gras held in another location. Has that changed?

Carnival, Mardi Gras, is a mixed event from top tp bottom. Many social, carnival, clubs are found all around Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. New Orleans has the most clubs, crews, and the best parties and parades. Although Mobile has some nice events also. New Orleans crews start parties and parades in January. The older, more established crews stage their parties and parades close as possible to Fat Tuesday, Mardi Gras Day. All parades are for tourist and the crews. Parties are private!!
