I am with you on this one. Yes, there may be only one other prong that was missing, but that does not mean that many of the other prongs were not worn down to be almost "paper thin". They may "LOOK" OK from looking straight down on the ring, but there is also the possibility that the prong has worn down from the top surface to be very, very thin and this is what the first jeweler saw and was informing you about.

My take, from over 40 years in the jewelry business.

So my question to you is,[not to be rude but] "How long have you done business with the 2nd jeweler over the 1st one that you said you have done business with for several years as a trusted jeweler?
