I find it depressing that some actually want to go back to the fifties, sixties, seventies ... Bad things happened then, they were just kept quiet. Child abuse, not a simple spanking but hitting and leaving bruises, was rampant. A rape victim was blamed for the attack. A child with ADHD or Aspergers or a birthmark or in crutches or in a wheelchair was mercilessly bullied by his peers, forced into special classes, hidden from view. How can anyone want to return to that life?
Yes, things have gone too far today. Zero tolerance is downright stupid. Political correctness has been turned into a farce. We need to add some common sense to the mix but we certainly shouldn't return to a school system that condones bullying, thinks weapons in school are acceptable, sexual abuse is hidden rather than stopped, victims are blamed for the crimes committed against them.
