My wife and I bought two immediate annuities 25 years ago. They will pay us until the end. Ours have no inflation protection, just survivorship. Interest rates were 7.5% back then which made them more affordable for their monthly payout. Luckily we have not had hyperinflation since then, but be aware that your dollars will erode over time.

Probably the best time to buy them is at retirement. They can become your pension.
