Default New batteries - what to expect?

2007 Par Car with 8 Trojan T-105 batteries installed 6 months ago. Gone through about 40-50 charge cycles, and have used the cart on a regular basis. Charges all the way to full, and I do use a Battery Minder on occasion. However, the battery indicator "fuel gage" (red LED) quickly drops to about halfway after only about 4-5 miles of distance, and cart loses a bit of "punch". Is this normal, or should I be looking at a voltage regulator or something else? Seems strange that the "fuel gage" would drop so quickly to "1/2 full" on a cart that supposedly goes 40+ miles between charges. Am I missing something here? What is this "fuel gage" reading, or is something wrong?
