If you're expecting a grand, dramatic story with a satisfying resolution in the third act, you won't like this film. If you accept it's a series of short vignettes representing the not-necessarily dramatic moments that make up the life of a boy, you might quite enjoy it.
A lot of attention is given to the boy who played the main character. Not so much seems to be given (at least in what I've read) to the girl who played the sister. She was played by the daughter of the director and particularly in a few scenes was astonishingly good. When her father tried to give her some frank advice about contraceptives when she was about 13 or so, her painfully embarrassed and mortified reactions were as real as anything I've ever seen acted by any actor.
I'm glad I saw the film and think it was an amazing project but it's not anything I'd ever need to see a second time.
