This reminds me of the hysteria over Communists in Hollywood, Universities and government during the "McCarthy Era". you have to be an early Baby Boomer to remember the reality of that. We had a strong military during the First Iraq War. If we hadn't continued the War beyond the initial victory, Iraq and the rest of the Middle East wouldn't be our problem. What is going on now is a direct result of our belief that cruise missiles and bunker busters would result in an early victory. What is going on now can't be dealt with by just "boots on the ground". An active duty army neighbor who had been in in the midst of fighting says "the Iraqi's aren't into the fight." How much military spending can correct this.
I would hope our Congressmen cast aside political rhetoric and examine the real options for solving a problem that goes beyond a solution by the OUR military.
I'm in agreement about the draft.
