I know of a couple of break-ins (not recently) where the couple left small dogs at home.
However I think that in general, a barking dog is a good deterrent.
Burglars don't want to draw attention to themselves.
Our 70 lb dogs is a teddy bear, but who knows what he would do if strangers enter when we're not home.
I think the scary thing about the recent string of break-ins is that the burglars seem to have figured out a system
where they can fly "under the radar" and blend in.
