Yes that is correct they have gone to a totally new design in 2005 with conventional brake
shoes in the rear.
I will give you a few reasons. but not all. The first is that it stops better at the higher speeds we travel at in The Villages. Second the break shoe replacement is much less costly then warning out a fluid brake system nestled in the differential gear train.
Now the new system by YAMAHA allows factory high speed gears and not the tipical aftermarket type used in the past in The Villages. Thus Yahama should have less warranty issues with the new system.
