Default Re: Timing Belt

Thank you Chuckinca, and to all of you other posters for your helpful suggestions and comments.

I talked with the guys at Meredith's and they made an important discovery - that my car doesn't have a timing belt, it has a chain, which they say does not need to be replaced. Of course I'm thrilled at that news!

The reason for my original question was that I had been told by a friend that I should get it changed, because a timing belt's life-span is about 60-80,000 miles, and my 1999 has just passed that limit. When the timing belt goes, it could happen at an inconvenient time! I didn't want to be stranded on any of my long trips to CA.

So thanks to all who responded, I really appreciate your help!
