You may want to check Walmart. They sell several car seats under $50. They aren't fancy but they all meet the federal safety standards. That might be cheaper than renting a car seat and you know no other child has used it. If you are considering a used car seat remember that car seats have a date printed on them to let you know when they are no longer safe to use.
