One of my daughters came with me because I wanted 2 pair of eyes to evaluate it all and both of us agreed that it's the most wonderful community we've ever been to. She would like to move her family there but she and her husband are only 37 yrs old.
We took the trolley tour, boat tour, went to the driving range (neither of us are golfers, but it was fun), joined a water aerobics class, laid out at the pool, ate lunch and dinner at some country clubs, had a blast driving the golf cart everywhere and the fun of getting lost alot, went to the nightly entertainment on the squares, saw a movie, visited 12 new build and pre-owned homes, got to know other people doing the LPP, shopped, and visited many other sites. What a great time we had - even saw a snake and an alligator!! Our sales rep took us to all the different types of rec centers and we peeked into zumba classes, the weight/cardio center and billiards. And best of all, we met and talked with so many friendly and kind people! We felt very welcomed.
So, basically I drank the Kool-Aid! Two of my other daughters are not happy that I am thinking of moving away from them but I really felt so energized at TV by staying active and having fun. So the decision is whether I go sooner or in 4 yrs when I retire. If I go sooner, I'll have to get a fulltime job down there, but in my type of work (nursing) we usually only work 3 days/wk so I could also still live some of the lifestyle until retirement.
As far as housing, I liked the Courtyard Villas and the Designer homes. Each have their advantages and disadvantages - I have a small dog and don't like yardwork, so the villas work great for that. But some of the designer homes we saw had Florida rooms, felt more like a home than an apartment and had nicer lanais with bird cages. Both types were in my price range, but I am trying not to spend too much so as not to be "house poor." My sales rep said that I can come back for another LPP when I'm ready to buy a home. Yay!
I'm so excited to be on this journey and hope to join all of you as soon as possible.
