You may have already started doing this, but as a suggestion, you may want to go to open houses, similar to your home, and look at and get a feel for the different products. I was told on laminate floors that the underlayment is key to a good install.
We ended up with Mohawk laminate in the living, dinning, and Florida rooms. In the kitchen we had Armstrong Alterna, 16x16 vinyl.
Pleased with both products.
