You are absolutely right. If it were a "loyalty" card, and not a cost discount card, you wouldn't have to renew annually at a cost of an additional $20, whether you use it or not. Where is the reward in that?
That said, I, too, would have some cognitive dissonance if I'd paid $20 for such a card. If a person uses it often enough, I suppose it would be worth the money, given that the $3 margaritas, once offered to
all customers, are no longer available without it.
