I think if I had to choose one or the other, to cut costs, cutting my own hair might make more sense. A well recommended hair clipper set is $90. That's a bit less than lawn equipment.
If you botch up your haircut----whatever you had before will return. That's not always true with a lawn.
How long would it take to cut your own hair? It has to be less than cutting the grass. It's certainly cooler.
