I have had both my hips replaced in the last six years. The first was done at Hospital for Special Surgery in NYC. It was done the traditional way (posterior method) by which the surgeon cuts through the muscle to replace the hip. Hip precautions are very important to prevent hip displacement during recovery. The second hip was replaced by Dr. Joseph Locker at the Orthopaedic Institute in Ocala. Dr. Locker is a graduate of Georgetown Medical School. He took the time to be trained in the "Anterior Method" of hip replacement. The difference was night and day as far as recovery. Please do your reading. When the hip is replaced using the anterior method the muscles are pushed apart rather then cut. There are no post surgery precautions and recovery was much quicker. I wish I knew there were two ways the surgery could have been done when I had the first hip replaced. I definitely would have found a surgeon who was willing to learn the intricate method of "anterior hip replacement". Please do your research and make an appointment to see Dr. Joseph Locker in Ocala.
