In 2000 golfer Phil Mickelson placed a preseason bet of $20,000 on the Baltimore Ravens to win Super Bowl XXXV, who were 22-1 odds. The Ravens beat the Giants 35-7 and Phil collected $560,000. When asked about his reasoning, he said he liked their off season acquisitions. Later in 2001 he bet on the Arizona Diamondbacks to win the World Series, which they did when they beat the Yankees.
