On the confederate flag issue. I personally understand the anguish on this particular flag. It has, in the past, been at the center of issues. Displaying that flag, especially at this time, shows nothing but insensitivity to others. Taking it from the capitol was a good thing to do.
Having said all of that, threatening someones jobber displaying it in a parade when it is not illegal, just very insensitive, is a bit of an overreaction to me. If you check the recent news, you will find the states of Mass. and Minn both now being critiqued on their state flag. SUDDENLY, by the way and that is important to the point I want to make at the conclusion of this post.
You, in my opinion, are reading some kind of okay for the confederate flag in the OPs remarks and IN CONTEXT I do not think that is what he is saying at all. It is one factor, IE. THE THREATENING OF SOMEONES JOB.
Your response to the education part of the post is a bit confusing. You speak of the media which is not part of what he is saying. There is a movement to almost allow a "time out" if something MIGHT offend you is going to be taught. It is suggested that you cannot refer to America as the land of opportunity because someone might not see it that way.
I understand your Catholic school experience, but nobody was filtering what you heard as part of the curriculum. Big and huge difference. And again, read all of this in context
I do believe, no...I KNOW that activist groups were up and running with Trump. The money that Soros gave...I think I read he upped the money by ONE MILLION DOLLARS just on this issue to start the online petitions and allow for the backroom pressure given to NBC and all of them. NBC sort of made me laugh with their high and mighty stuff but....all activist driven.
Now, that is not a defense of anything Trump said in anyway. I do believe he is more right than wrong. I do believe we are welcoming much of the criminal population of Central American countries. Instead of engaging in conversation on the issue, and this included many if not all of the Republican candidates it has been let us attack the man. What he said was certainly not the right way to get attention but he did. This is what minor candidate do in primary season and always have.
I cannot comment on climate control as I do not understand it and anything I read turns into politics and for me, that is just not something I enjoy. I enjoy POLITICS, but not POLITICIZATION
To recap, I read the OPs note to speak to the non conversation but activision that abound now in the country. When I speak of these issues, do not confuse my comments with disagreeing or agreeing....but...
Our President and his entire party, a short 3 years ago were against gay marriage. In 3 short years they completely changed their mind BEFORE the Supreme Court ruling. Was that because the entire party and administration just came around in 3 years ?
The confederate flag was flying about 2 weeks ago and nothing was said;NASCAR had it on every track; we had a tragic and terrible thing happen, and suddenly people will be arrested for having it on a vehicle IN TWO WEEKS and a sit com from years ago is cancelled because of the flag.
Our public schools after all this time, suddenly need to warn people that they MIGHT find this offensive...whatever is being taught, which includes century old title. We are unable to refer to our country as the land of opportunity because maybe some child in the class will be offended by that term and we do not address discipline problems in elementary school before looking at their race and deciding that maybe the are not at fault because of their culture.
I am sorry...this is activism and it is prevelant right now. Always has been and always will be activists but they are MAKING POLICY....not trying to influence...they are MAKING POLICY.
I hope what I say makes sense...while I have so much more to say, I am trying real hard to keep it short.
Thanks for your post and keep them coming.

We agree that the flag should be taken down from the Capitol, which I expect to happen. I believe the firefighter was suspended not fired but correct me if I am wrong.
Not sure what you mean by my educational comments... but I don't believe in the "Liberal Media" hoax. All channels other than Fox are not to be trusted because they are liberal?
I was in Catholic school until 2 grade, the reading of the bible was imposed in the 3rd grade. My point was I exposed to religious bigotry at an early age...something I will never forget. So I am very sensitive to people wrapping themselves in "religious freedom" to deny someone else's rights.
As for Hillary, Obama and gay marriage. Clinton came into office with the stated purpose allowing gays in the military. He ended up having to sign Don't Ask Don't Tell in the dark of night. So no I don't think Hillary was against gay marriage, on the other hand I do think Obama was....That is why I didn't support him.... I was a Hillary girl. As for the rest....they had their fingers in the wind which was NOT blowing in favor of gay marriage. Things did seem to turn on a dime but I think that was because more gays blew the doors off the closet so most everyone knew someone who is gay....
As for school their zero tolerance policies have done more harm than good.
