Your comments on religious activism confuse me, and for the record, I am the product of 12 years of Catholic school, and attended in the 50s as well, so what you say I understand, but on one hand you sound offended by the addition of God, and then offended by the anti catholic feeling during the Kennedy campaign. They seem to come at cross purposes.
BUT all those "differences" were in the religion arena. To filter FACT from teaching so as not to offend or to filter DISCIPLINE and make it dependent on race just does not sit well with me.
And as an addition to something you said on the gentleman being disciplined for having the confederate flag in a parade. Be mindful, I am ok with what is happening in South Carolina, but that flag is not illegal in any way, so why should anyone anywhere be disciplined in any way for flying it. Isn't that free speech. Many of the anti US, anti police signs recently exhibited were defended on that principle. Point is you seemed to feel that suspension instead if firing made it ok, and I do not understand any discipline at all

My only point on the Under GOD and In God We Trust additions were to paint the picture of the 50's.... Just yesterday at an Amenity meeting I said the pledge with the inclusion no problem.
As an Irish Catholic my family experienced racism against the Irish....I was not old enough to see them but my father saw the signs "Irish need not apply". Fortunately for me I had strong aunts who bucked the system, one of which ended up as a high school principle in New Jersey during the 50's.
