I often wonder if the folks who design our kitchen appliances have ever used kitchen appliances. I have had stainless steel appliances in the past in two different homes and they cleaned up nicely with soap and water and CLEAN rags.

I'm with you. I don't give a rip if it's natural, as long as it cleans up the fingerprints. I have found wipes made by Weiman work really well, followed by buffing with a mitt from HD that's blue terry on one side and neon green shag-rug on the other.
In our last house, I tried many things. I found that once you go with the oily-type stuff (Weiman wipes, Pledge, etc.), you should stay with that type. A spray will then not work because you have effectively put a protective film on with the oily-type stuff. You would have to somehow get all of that off, I guess with really hot, soapy water.
I might try the mineral oil thing and see what happens.
