America's Next Revolution
Shattered Consensus by James Piereson In Shattered Consensus: Decline of America's Postwar Political Order the author argues America has undergone three historic earthquakes: the Jefferson revolution which ushered in a long period of dominance of a new anti-Feeralist party; the Civil War which vanquished slavery and set off the ascendancy of the northern Republicanism; and the New Deal which dramatically expanded the size and intrusiveness of the federal government in American lives. In each the old order fell and a new one emerged.
The author views Obama's presidency as the beginning of the collapse of the 80 year consensus forged in the post World War II. That consensus assigned the national government responsibility for maintaining full employment, policing the world's interest in democracy, trade and national security.
The collapse of this consensus began to disintegrate in the 1960's & 70's with Vietnam protests, students movements to the left, discarding traditional. moral and social values by reigning Democrats ...........
Leading to the question: how will the contemporary left resolve the original progressive contradiction which persists today? Affecting to be tribunes of the people and advocates for democracy in practice so called progressives demonstrate a dismissive impatience with democracy in favor of rule by the diktats of our benevolent betters namely them
Succintly stated hippies of the 60's begot hippies of succeeding generation and those generation are strategically placed in our schools and our government and creating a revolution moving America from its traditions to the new normal.
What do you think?
