Our mental health system is deeply flawed with its treatment protocols, professionals and mental health laws. People in general haven't changed their perception of mental illness since the Dark Ages. This has resulted in the most vulnerable segment of our society being completely ignored .
Liberal policies placed these people on the streets without a support system. State agencies are inept and too bureaucratic. Families are prevented legally to assist their loved ones and kept at bay
The public's perception of mental illness goes back to the Dark Ages. Believe or don't believe it but our illegal drug loving society plays a role in the worsening of these mental health diseases and that's why more and more pop up.
If you cry out for control forget gun control and begin controlling by putting pressure on politicians to enact severe drug trafficing laws tightening our border from the illicit drug trade, and enacting a mental health systems that allows family to interact with the mental health medical community in the same manner as any other illness. Mental health facilities are inept and abuses are found just as in old age facilities . Again stronger laws with responsible oversight of such facilities are needed. But none of this can be accomplished until and unless people change their perception of mental illness. As it stands now we have more people who care about the treatment of pets than we do human beings left vulnerable but these illnesses.
