I purchased an outdoor sofa from City Furniture in Lady Lake in March the sales person verified it was mildew resistant, we purchased the extended warranty/in home service as a precaution. The item arrived a few days later. We were having work done on our lanai and at the advice of the delivery men, we kept the sofa in the garage covered by a sheet.
On or about June 1, we placed the couch on the lanai (under roof). In approximately 6 weeks it had turned a grayish/black color due to a dusting of mildew.
I contacted the Lady Lake store and the customer service dept. which is located in Tamarac Fl. I was put through a gamut of representative to ‘help’ me. I was told to look up the definition of mildew resistant vs. mildew proof in the dictionary. I was told it is like a waterproof vs. water resistant watch, in so much as, you cannot swim with a water resistant watch. (I am not sure how that relates to a sofa, I can assure you I did not swim with the sofa). I was also told that the store personnel, including the General Manager were ‘misinformed’ and should not have told me the sofa was mildew resistant.
I “Googled” the head of customer service and emailed her. She found a way to squirm out of helping me too. It seems they employ so many people to tell you “NO!” in customer service, it would be more cost effective to simply stand by their products.
This leaves me with a gray, mildew sofa cushions that never should have been outdoors, even under cover.
Beware of purchasing anything from City Furniture and beware of their false claims. They do not stand behind their claims and warranties.
