OK as a past owner of several dogs we at one time had a very large 140 pound Belgian Shepherd. (Trained to serve and protect). My father-in-law would never come to our house as long as we have owned that dog. He finally admitted he was attacked by a German Shepherd and basically had life-threatening issues. Did he hate all dogs, yes that I respect . So as long as we had a dog in our house he never came to our house, and that was OK. I do understand why some people do not like dogs and I have no issues with that. No matter how we think our pets are cute and cuddly there will be somebody who has a great fear.
