Reread the OP. It sounds like he (she) asked for and was granted an appointment to have his (her) teeth cleaned but this did not happen. If the intent was to do only a new patient visit and not clean his teeth then this should have been made clear when the appointment was granted.

His replacement is quite good, very professional, and at the end of my first visit gave me a list of several things he recommended be done over time. It was not a sales effort. He presented it factually and included the cost. And I appreciated the information.
