Once the next elections are history things will get back to normal, if possible. Even if we were unfortunate to get Hilary (heaven help us) the minority issue will go back to normal. She doesn't care about anyone but herself, so issues with minorities, ie. black, Latin, women, gays, etc, will be shoved aside. Probably the only good thing that might be said of her. But, right now minorities of any sect have a platform and mic. It's temporary until the next election. Most of what we are hearing right now is a very small group(s) making a lot of noise because they can. They are "tolerated" right now, because of the racist in the White House, but that tolerance will expire once he vacates D.C. Some folks will not be happy until everyone is knocked down to their low level of misery. Unwilling to pull themselves up to a level of satisfaction and happiness, the miserable want company at the bottom. Essentially, they are just proving to everyone that they refuse to work for a better lifestyle. No one is being "kept" down. They have NO excuse now, so they want to rewrite the past. The past is the past, regardless of how one perceives it. Most miserable people have themselves to blame for their unhappiness, not others. No one is holding them back.
If reminders of the civil war happen to be offensive to someone, then get over it. The Civil war happened. They should be grateful and want to be reminded of that aspect of history. Maybe someone else is offended by Black history month, Black TV, Black Miss America pageant, and faux African flags. Maybe some are offended by Cinco de mayo, Latin Week and Latin TV, or even "push 2 for espaniol." We live with it. Tell me why it is assumed that whites be PC and tolerant, over other folks. Why is it that whites are required to be tolerant of violations of their religion, tolerant of gays (but not the other way around) and immigration violations. Is it presumed solely because they ARE tolerant?
Americans will only be pushed so much before they become intolerant. I never gave the confederate battle flag much thought before demands that it be removed from memory. Now, I see bumper stickers and flags all over the place. Probably some of them being displayed by folks that don't appreciate being told that they can't do something in America that also never gave it a thought before. Now, idiots want to remove names and statues from public spaces? What's next, ban them from private property? You can't erase history, no matter how you hide the reminders. How about we just hide all reminders of slavery? Forget about it, it didn't happen. Hide reminders of the holocaust. It didn't happen. We lost as many Americans in the battle of Gettysburg as we did in the Vietnam war. That's a tragedy. Do we want to forget about it?
Folks need to calm down and take into consideration who the activists are and what their real motive is. Americans are good and tolerant people until pushed too far. Tolerance will only go so far. We may not condone something but we tolerate it. Don't push us past the tolerant stage or you may not like the majority once they shake off their complacency and decide that enough is enough. Don't mistake our silent tolerance with us condoning.
