I don't know of any member of my very large extended family, male or female that would slap or hit anyone, unless there was an obvious physical threat to a member of their household or close friend. An obvious physical threat would be that the other was armed, was trying to enter their dwelling without permission or had laid hands on them. I have NEVER observed chest bumping in any way with my own eyes. I have seen athletes do it as a greeting. I am very much skilled at recognizing drunk behavior and have been taught from very young to not argue with a drunk.

In a situation where someone is behaving badly....If you are from New York, you act differently than if you are from Ohio generally...that is what I have observed. I am not saying either is more right or wrong, but it is WAAAAAAY different.
I understand not wanting to resort to violence. But everyone has a different threshold of when and where. From what I read about this incident, the line dancer was in the right to physically respond to this belligerent drunk. I read that the drunk actually pulled on her clothing more than once. Sometimes you just have to put a bully in their place. Now, I probably would have just pushed her back out of my space if I was the line dancer, but then, I wasn't there and I don't know how the line dancer was processing everything at the time. It's much easier Monday morning quarterbacking. I have witnessed some very passive people snap in certain stressful situations.
