I think it will work for coyotes in The Villages, and for bears at our Canadian cabin on a lake.
The problem with bear spray is that bears have to come close before you can use it.

We have lived peacefully with these animals for many years but we do spray our garbage with ammonia on pick up day so as not attract them.
